Field-based Internship

Objectives:

The specific objectives of internship relate to understanding the roles and responsibilities of the day care facilitator. The specific objectives of this internship correspond with the courses taught during the semester. These are as follows:

• Help students make linkages between various theoretical constructs of child development, nutrition, play, curriculum, the management of a centre and so on
• Understand and appreciate work of facilitators and other professionals in child’s development at a centre
• Enhance observational and interpersonal skills with young children in early childhood centres

Course Outcomes:

After completing the course, students will be able to:

• Build positive relationships with children, staff and parents
• Provide safe, hygienic and healthy environment to children
• Create and provide stimulating environment to children
• Support holistic development of children
• Document day to day records of children at the centre

Brief description of modules/ Main modules:

The internship will be designed to firstly to orient and immerse students in the field sites related to Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) to make sense of and reflect upon different experiences in relation to theoretical concepts and principles presented in class. Secondly, it also aims to facilitate thinking about the field analytically and initiate the process of action and reflection as entrepreneurs. The internship placement will engage students with families and communities which could be potential sites for practice. The field experiences will also link with specific courses for a more directed and informed reflection on the field-experiences of students. The purpose of this component is also to connect the classroom with the field sites
